Applied Microsystems Expands Support for PMC-Sierra's RM7000 Family of MIPS Microprocessors With CodeTEST Tool Suite

REDMOND, Wash., Aug. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Applied Microsystems Corp. (Nasdaq: APMC) today announced availability of its CodeTEST® tool suite for PMC-Sierra's RM7000(TM) family of 64-bit MIPS RISC microprocessors. CodeTEST is the first high-performance software analysis tool suite available for the powerful RM7000 CPU family.

AMC's widely used CodeTEST tools provide the critical measurements that developers need to optimize software in complex network systems. Using CodeTEST, developers can increase the performance of their systems while eliminating the risk of software defects in their RM7000-based products before they are shipped to customers. CodeTEST is integrated into the Tornado® development environment, meaning it works seamlessly with the Wind River VxWorks® RTOS (real-time operating system) and PMC-Sierra's RM7000 family of MIPS microprocessors.

``Availability of CodeTEST for the RM7000 family is further proof of our commitment to provide leading-edge software analysis tools for developers using today's popular embedded processors,'' said Mark Budzinski, vice president of sales and marketing at AMC. ``Using CodeTEST with the RM7000 family will allow designers to develop higher quality network systems faster.''

``We are pleased Applied has extended their CodeTEST solution to developers using our RM7000 family of microprocessors,'' said Tom Riordan, vice president and general manager of PMC-Sierra's MIPS Processor Division. ``The RM7000 family is gaining popularity among broadband systems developers, and we are confident our customers will welcome CodeTEST's capabilities for optimizing code performance and quality.''

About CodeTEST

CodeTEST offers software development teams much-needed gains in quality and productivity with software test and analysis methods that migrate through each stage of software development. With common file formats for native, software and hardware test and analysis, CodeTEST becomes the basis for a coherent, integrated test methodology.

The CodeTEST family of products consists of CodeTEST Native, CodeTEST Software-In-Circuit, and CodeTEST Hardware-In-Circuit. Each can be used throughout the embedded software lifecycle for development, debugging and testing.

CodeTEST users can experience real-time software performance measurements with less than 100-nanosecond resolution. This precision allows an extremely accurate view of critical software performance. Accurate, non-sampled code coverage analysis allows users to verify that all code shipped to the customer has been tested. This drastically reduces the risk of field failures.

The memory analysis function that is available with CodeTEST helps developers optimize system memory use for increased product performance and efficiency, and helps identify memory leak conditions before they cause system crashes.

CodeTEST's trace capability allows developers to view software execution history and track a bug or defect from symptom to source. With this capability the debugging cycle time is accelerated and project efficiency is maximized.

Pricing and Availability

CodeTEST is available immediately from AMC. For more information on CodeTEST, or to order a 30-day trial version, visit www.amc.com or send email to: info@amc.com. CodeTEST for the RM7000 pricing ranges from $4,000 to $7,000 for individual performance, coverage, memory or trace modules. Full-featured system solutions are priced at $30,000.

The RM7000 Family

PMC-Sierra's RM7000 family is the industry's leading high-performance family of 64-bit MIPS RISC microprocessors. PMC-Sierra is the only MIPS RISC vendor to manufacture microprocessors with integrated L2 cache for LAN and WAN internetworking applications. All RM7000 family CPUs implement true superscalar 64-bit architectures and enable the simultaneous execution of two integer instructions or one integer with one floating-point instruction. The processors are equipped with 64-bit data paths, dual 64-bit ALUs, 64-bit FPUs and 64-bit system interfaces via the multiplexed address and data system bus (SysAD). CPU performance ranges from 250 MHz to 400 MHz, with SysAD capability up to 125 MHz. Power dissipation for this caliber of processor remains an industry benchmark, and is typically less than 3.5 W at 400 MHz. All processors are equipped with 256 KB of integrated L2 cache, as well as 16 KB each for independent L1 instruction and data caches. The highest performance members of the RM7000 family contain an L3 cache controller for access of up to 8 MB of external cache.
